Roger Alan Skerbitz, age 88, died May 22, 2026, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

He was born January 2, 1938 in Aurora, Minnesota to John and Anne Skerbitz. He had two older brothers, Thomas and James. He served in the U.S. Air Force as an aircraft mechanic and then became a journeyman electrician. He was a self-employed electrician most of his working life. Raised on the Iron Range in northern Minnesota, he eventually settled with his family in rural Hubbard County, where most of his children were raised. While living in northern Minnesota, he was active in his church and the Royal Rangers, a Christ-centered youth development program similar to the Boy Scouts. He later relocated with his family to Tulsa, Oklahoma where he spent the remainder of his life.

In his younger years, he enjoyed motorcycle riding, and was mechanically inclined, often repairing vehicles.  While living in Hoyt Lakes, MN, he took his young family in a travel trailer on a tour with a Gospel singing group for about a year, where he assisted with performance setup and logistical planning.

He helped Morris Breed, one of his lifelong friends and fellow Royal Ranger commander, with the construction of an experimental aircraft, in which he was able to fly  with Morris on several trips, including one from Minnesota to Pennsylvania.

He was also an artist, creating color pencil portraits of family and friends, and he created Native American themed art which he sold while living in Minnesota.

He was known as a street evangelist. Everywhere he went, he would present the saving Gospel of Jesus Christ to everyone he met along with an illustrated Gospel pamphlet, some humorous literature, and an encouraging word. He spent many hours preparing photocopies and packets of short articles, humorous stories, and Gospel literature, which he carried and distributed.

Roger is survived by the mother of his children, Elizabeth Jean Skerbitz; son Daniel P. Skerbitz, his wife and 4 grandchildren; daughter Cindy A. Young, her husband and 2 grandchildren; daughter Wendy M. Hammons, and 3 grandsons; and son Andrew J. Skerbitz.

He was preceded in death by his son, Edward A. Skerbitz.
