Mauro Hernandez-Soria
January 18, 1959 - July 27, 2024
Mauro was best known for his dedication to his loving family and for his strong work ethic. He was full of life and made life fun.
Mauro Hernandez Soria, 65 years old, of Tulsa, Oklahoma died on the 27th of July 2024.
He was born on the 18th of January 1959 in Meoqui, Chihuahua, Mexico to Regino Hernandez and Petra Soria who he loved and honored dearly. His father encouraged him to overcome obstacles and his mother affirmed his faith in God.
In late 1970s, when Mauro was a young adult, he decided to embark on a journey to the United States of America. Taking with him his parents' teachings of faith, love, and perseverance. He landed in a place called Hobbs, New Mexico but his journey called him to find work further northeast to Tulsa, Oklahoma.
He met the love of his life; his wife Aracely Gomez in Tulsa and they married in October 1982.
Mauro and Aracely had five children, three daughters and two sons. Clarivel, Monica, Claudia, Luis Mauro, and Bryan Regino. His children were his “tesoros” his life’s treasures; he picked each name and gave a loving nickname for each.
He did the same for his grandchildren. Angela, Anahi, Joshua, Aaliyah, Leonardo, Sophia, and Aidan. Each grandchild had a special place in his heart, and he enjoyed being a papa or grandpa. Mauro had seven “grand pups” that also “tugged on his heartstrings.
Mauro worked almost his entire life, from farming as a young boy in Mexico to retiring just two years ago. The last twenty-three years of his professional work was having his own business in lawn and landscaping. He was brilliant and committed to creating tidy, clean, and colorful lawns, and landscaping.
He loved music and loved to dance. He danced all night at his daughter Monica’s wedding. He loved asking Alexa to play his songs as he danced and sang with the biggest joy.
Mauro traveled to Mexico very often. When he returned from Mexico, he brought back quesos, dried chile peppers, and other keepsakes for his children and grandchildren. He made the best chile colorado dish; in fact, he made sure to make it for his daughter Claudia’s wedding, his granddaughters’ Aaliyah and Angela’s quinceaneras and other important family events.
Everyone knew how skilled a cook he was and how much he loved to have a garden. He especially loved to make fresh handmade flour tortillas, salsas and elotes. He enjoyed being invited to help make tamales every holiday season.
Besides cooking, traveling, and gardening, Mauro was a self-taught “home improvement guy.” His last project was converting his garage into a second living space; he created a wall and a pocket door to separate the laundry room from it.
Mauro will always be remembered for his selflessness and for the way he loved his wife, children, and grandchildren.
We will always imagine him saying “mijos hacemos una carnita asada” (kids let have a cookout) “no manejes como loco” (do not drive crazy) and “hay frijoles en la casa” (we have beans to eat at home).
We could not have asked for a better jefe, dad, daddy, papa. His memories will live on in the hearts of all that loved him.
Mauro was preceded in death by his parents Regino and Petra, sisters Blasa, Esperanza, and Leonor, and brother Luciano and is survived by his wife Aracely, his children Clarivel and her husband Daren Jett, Monica and her husband Polo Molina, Claudia and her husband Nick Pendergrass, Luis Mauro and his wife Jordyn and son Bryan Regino Hernandez.
