Sherri Lynn Standridge Varnell

August 26, 1964

April 12, 2025

With hearts full of love and sorrow, we share the passing of Sherri Lynn Standridge Varnell on April 12, 2025. She was born on August 26, 1964, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Sherri was the beloved daughter of Mary Apple Hixson and Ronald Hixson, as well as Charles Standridge and Dee Scott.

Sherri spent the majority of her life serving others with a smile as a waitress - a role that perfectly matched her generous heart and magnetic personality.  Small in stature but mighty in spirit, she was known for her bright red lipstick, contagious laugh, and the ability to make everyone feel like the most important person in the room.

She loved animals, music, warm weather, Jesus, her daughter, and flowers.  Her faith, kindness, and imagination shaped every part of her life.  She never met a stranger and had a way of making people feel seen and safe.  She lived simply, but gave freely of her time, her love, and her presence.  Whether through a thoughtful word or a shared moment, she offered what really mattered:  herself.  Her proudest role was being a mother to her only daughter, Cherissa Lane Francine Hopper, aka Cheri, whom she loved with her whole heart.

She is also lovingly remembered by her longtime boyfriend, Elvis, whose presence brought her a sense of safety and steadiness in a world that didn’t always feel kind.  To know Sherri was to be reminded that joy can be found in the little things - a bloom in the sunlight, a favorite song on the radio, a shared laugh at the table.  She taught those around her that laughter is a language of love, all people deserve love, and love conquers all.

Sherri is survived by her daughter, Cherissa Lane Francine Hopper, and son-in-law James Derick Hopper, who together carry forward her legacy of compassion, resilience, empathy, laughter, and love.  She was preceded in death by her father, Charles, and is survived by her mother, Mary, along with Ronald and Dee, who also held meaningful places in her life.

Her best traits live on in her grandchildren: Bryson and Madison Young, Brock Young, Bailey Young, Landon Hopper, and Julianne Hopper. Her legacy continues through her great-grandson, Kayson Lee Young, who carries forward her light, warmth, and joy.

At this time, there will be no public funeral service.  Sherri lived a life that was deeply personal and often misunderstood, and we want to honor her memory in a way that reflects her quiet strength, free spirit, and unique beauty of who she truly was.

In lieu of a service, we invite you to honor Sherri in your own way - with a kind word to a stranger, cranking up the music to your favorite song and singing or dancing along, a bloom tucked behind your ear, or a bright shade of lipstick worn boldly.  To her friends and family she leaves behind, she would want to hold up a peace sign, tell you she loves you, and remind you to eat, drink, and be merry as she will be waiting for you in fields of wildflowers holding the hand of Jesus.

Our talks about our moms will always be a very special memory for me, with you there sharing stories of love, inspiration and free spirit. I You and I truly believe she gave you the best qualities! Your charisma, beauty and strength are unmatched but shared for comfort with others. You were her only child, one of a kind and so very special to us and so many! My heart hurts with you friend. I love you always! - Tabitha Hewitt

Farewell friend, you spread peace and happiness and left us all with some sweet memories. Blessings to your family. - Jim Fritts
